What is Counselling?
Counselling provides you with a safe, judgement free, and confidential space to explore your feelings and concerns with a trained professional. With the help of your counsellor, you will explore your behaviours, feelings, and thoughts, to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others.Counsellors will not give you advice, opinions, prescribe medication, or give a diagnosis. Counsellors will help you find your own solutions, which could be finding ways to cope with your problems or making effective changes in your life.
What is Integrative Counselling?
Under counselling there are many different types of techniques and types of therapy, such as Person-Centred Counselling, Psychodynamic, and Systemic etc. Integrative counselling draws from a variety of theories and tools to create a tailored approach for each client.
Integrative counsellors believe that no single therapeutic approach can help every client in all situations. Instead, they consider the client individually, taking into account their circumstances and individual needs. This allows integrative counsellors to help explore your problems and aid you in finding ways to cope in a way that may resonate with you better than using just a single approach.
What may happen in Integrative Counselling?
For example, your integrative counsellor may use some psychodynamic therapy to help you bring subconscious events to the conscious, like difficult experiences and memories which may be impacting your present day life and how you cope with challenges. Then they may use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to look into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to help you change some of these if helpful, using tools such as journaling.
What can Integrative Counselling help with?
Integrative counselling is personalised for each client so it can help with a range of issues, including both short-term and long-term concerns. This can include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, relationships and more.
